Galaxy Z Fold 6 makes it easier to add fingerprints

While Samsung didn't introduce major hardware changes with the Galaxy Z Fold 6, it still improved the phone's user experience through minor changes and optimizations. One such improvement has been made to how a new fingerprint can be added.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 fingerprint registration process has improved

Earlier Galaxy Z Fold phones required you to unfold the device to register a new fingerprint. However, that limitation has now been removed. With the Galaxy Z Fold 6, you can register a new fingerprint while keeping the phone unfolded and using the cover screen. This change was spotted by 9To5Google, and it is a welcome change.

It still isn't clear if this feature will be limited to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 or released to previous compatible Galaxy Z Fold phones with the One UI 6.1.1 update. In our understanding, nothing should stop Samsung from bringing this feature to previous-generation Galaxy Z Fold phones, as they all use a side-mounted fingerprint reader from Goodix.

There appears to be a bug in the phone's current firmware version that prevents users (via 9To5Google) from registering their fingerprints while setting up the phone for the first time.

You can watch our hands-on experience of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 in the video below.

While some Chinese brands have started offering under-display fingerprint readers in their new foldable phones, Samsung is sticking with a side-mounted capacitive fingerprint reader for its foldable phones. And that is perfectly fine. The side-mounted fingerprint reader on Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold phones is accurate, fast, and reliable, and it can be accessed when the phone is folded or unfolded.

Apart from fingerprints, Samsung offers alphanumeric, pattern, and PIN-based user authentication systems on its phones. They can be used to unlock the phone, unlock sensitive apps like banking, and secure features like Secure Folder.
